Gadget News – Orange UK and Barclaycard introduced near fled communication (NFC), a model of payment using a mobile phone. Service titled Quick Tap, can be used for transactions in a number of merchants such as McDonald’s, EAT, Pret-a-Manger and some Boots stores.
NFC is a new payment model using a cell phone as a medium of transaction. NFC technology has been embedded in mobile phones. To activate it can use the account provided by the service.
On Tap Quick service, for example, this service can only be enjoyed by the users of the Samsung Tocci Lite. Users also must have an account at Orange.
Furthermore, transactions can be done by using a cell phone, the withdrawal transaction using a debit or credit card. No need to SMS for transactions and notifications. With such a device electronic data capture (EDC), the transaction can be done anytime, anywhere.
So far, the Quick Tap to set the purchase is worth at least 15 pounds that can be paid through this service, and users can enter their mobile deposit into the account up to 100 pounds.
“Having a wallet on my phone makes it much more convenient to shop when traveling and I like it because it allows me to control spending when I travel,” said David Chan, chief executive of Barclaycard Consumer.
“This will start a revolution in how we pay for everything on the go,” said Pippa Dunn, vice president of Orange.
Other stores that sign up to use this service include Subway, Little Chef, and the National Trust. Late this summer the user can also use it to pay the M6 ??motorway services in England.
Giles Ubaghs, an analyst at Datamonitor believes that these services may be growing slowly. Similar services have been developed in Japan in recent years and operators NTT DoCoMo to spend a lot to make it run and thrive.
